Worcester Extension

This large late Georgian family house in Worcester had been subject to many alterations. Our client approached us to look at reconfiguring the layout and replacing the low quality additions with a contemporary extension.

The original building had been reconfigured for use as a hostel in the 1980’s and the disjointed layout reflected the building’s past lives. The ground floor staircase completely divided the living areas from the rest of the house, and the brief was to ‘open up’ the ground floor with an open plan kitchen and living area, which would have access to the garden.

Our proposed design relocated the kitchen to the heart of the house, and replaced a low quality UPVC conservatory with a glazed wrap around extension which will bring much needed natural daylight into the deep plan. The design of the extension acknowledges the proportions and solidity of the original house in a contemporary style and provides new living space that links the original house with the garden.
