Building with landscape and history
We were approached by the owner of an unusual and unique site in the Vale of Glamorgan to develop a scheme for a new house. The site had previously housed several WWII shelters and concrete structures and we drew inspiration from this unusual vernacular typology for the form of the new dwelling.
The proposed building is cut into the hillside, with green roofs blending the boundary of building and landscape. The lower ground level houses a suite of private bedrooms, each with access to the garden. The upper ground floor is arranged as a number of separate blocks with interconnecting walkways and terraces that provide views to the sea. The broken form references the small structures that were located on the site and reduces the visual impact of this large house within the landscape.
